Don’t Wire $ to DRE – Scam Warning
The Department of Real Estate (DRE) warns licensees that scammers are identifying themselves as DRE investigators or staff members and demanding that brokers or real estate salespeople wire them money.
The DRE will never ask you to wire money. Fines or penalty payments will always be made to the Department of Real Estate, never to an individual. If you receive an e-mail or call from a person claiming to be from the DRE, do not provide them with any personal information.
Contact DRE call center: (877) 373-4542 and follow the prompts to speak to an investigator. DRE will be able to confirm whether or not the person contacting you is indeed a DRE employee.
If the phone number of the caller appears to be a DRE number, you should report the scam to the Federal Communications Commission.
