Trump Eliminates Fair Housing Rules
Trump officially scrapped a rule meant to ensure compliance with the Fair Housing Act of 1968. The Affirmatively Furthering Fair Housing policy held communities accountable for providing fair housing by publicly reporting patterns of racial bias.
Most Common Pandemic Improvements
Did COVID force some people to make any mandatory upgrades? Almost a third noted they were forced to make changes due to the new way of life under COVID. See what owners are doing or plan to do to improve their living space.
Buyers Waive Contingencies
The pandemic and high unemployment rate haven’t slowed the housing market. With homebuyers facing heightened competition this summer for a limited number of homes for sale, some have decided to try to gain an edge by waiving contingencies to make their offers more competitive.
Who’s Buying – First-time buyers were responsible for 35% of sales in June, up from 34% in May 2020 and about equal to 35% in June 2019. NAR’s 2019 Profile of Home Buyers and Sellers – released in late 2019 – revealed that the annual share of first-time buyers was 33%. (NAR)
Moving Millennials – A study shows that states with robust job markets and lower real estate costs tend to attract more young people and future homeowners, even those who make more money and would be able to afford an apartment in San Francisco and New York. See the Top 10 markets attracting millennials (Hint: If CA made the list, CVAR would be sharing the full article!) (SmartAsset)
Market Stats – C.A.R.’s latest weekly analysis of MLS data across California reveals that pending sales increased for the first time in 4 weeks to an average of nearly 1,100 homes entering escrow per day last week. Prior to last week, home sales had been declining since late June. However, pending sales in California have now been above their pre-coronavirus levels for 11 weeks in a row. (C.A.R.)
