Census Homeless – In January, volunteers fanned out across Los Angeles to help perform the county and city homeless agency’s annual homeless census. The findings showed that homelessness increased in the City of Los Angeles by 14.2% over the year, to 41,290 people—a smaller, if still alarming, increase than the year before, when there was a 16% jump. (LA Homeless Services Authority)
LGBT Employees – The U.S. Supreme Court ruled that federal law protects gay and transgender workers from job discrimination in a pair of decisions that give millions of LGBT people new civil rights. Conservative Justice Neil Gorsuch and Chief Justice John Roberts joined the court’s four liberals in a 6-3 majority, interpreting the longstanding federal ban on sex discrimination in the workplace to cover bias on the basis of sexual orientation and gender identity. REALTOR® Unemployment – California REALTORS® can apply for PUA through UI Online.
