Everyone in the real estate industry should already have their own website and social media accounts, but that’s not enough. You need to keep these active with regular, engaging, and insightful blogs.
Often I hear people say that they don’t know what to blog about, but there really are plenty of topics that you can cover that will humanize you in potential clients’ eyes, show that you are an expert, and explain how you approach your work. The best part is that all of these things further brand you and help to gain trust.
Here are some suggestions to get you started:
Explain who you are. By this I mean that you should talk about your background. Let people know why you chose real estate, tell them what sets you apart from other agents, and what motivates you. Feel free to consider some blogs to be similar to a bio. Humanize yourself by talking about your hobbies, your pets, your family, et cetera.
Blog about past or recent real estate experiences. Do you have success stories that will impress potential clients? Did you truly “wow” a client with your services? Did you achieve a real estate goal when all hope was lost and everything seemed impossible? Better yet, get a testimonial from the clients and include it. Share these stories on your blogs to show your dedication and tenacity and instill more trust in your abilities. Also, when you win an award, blog about it. Sometimes it’s okay to pat yourself on the back, especially when it’s because you are good at what you do.
What’s your process? Often potential clients are curious about your marketing methods and approach to real estate processes. Tell them how you go above and beyond to host the best open houses, explain your top-notch marketing tactics (both online and old school), and certainly highlight your excellent communication skills and quick response times – attributes that people in the industry claim to have and carry out, but not always do.
Be the active community expert. Are you involved in community committees, clubs, charities, or events? Or is there an area happing taking place soon? Let people know. This showcases you as the local, caring, involved, and knowledgeable expert who knows the ins-and-outs of the community you service. This type of knowledge is invaluable – especially for people relocating from farther away. Also, post about local housing market news to show you know how to properly price a house or make reasonable offers.
Here’s an obvious one. If you have a new listing, then use your blog to market it. Take high quality, appealing photos and include them with your blog. In fact, include photos (that don’t violate copyright laws) with all of your blogs. Know how to make video? Even better. Oh yeah, also write in full sentences – as first time buyers might not know the abbreviations and lingo that you typically use on the MLS. Remember, you want to humanize yourself, not sound like a robot.
So there you have it – some solid suggestions for what you can write about. I recommend blogging at least once a week to let people know you are a true and active real estate expert. Share you blogs from your website on your social accounts as well so that potential clients and those in your sphere of influence will keep you in mind when its time for their next real estate transaction.
