CVAR Joins the Party – You Can Too!

A few weeks ago a group of CVAR members, who are RAF donors, took an expense-paid trip to Sacramento to meet our representatives. Honorary Member for Life – No C.A.R. Dues!
If you’re age 75 and have been a member of C.A.R. for at least 25 years, you may be designated Honorary Member-for-Life by the California Association of REALTORS®.
The deadline is Sept. 2, 2016 to submit an application. The application must be submitted to C.A.R. by your local association (not by you), so e-mail the completed application to firstname.lastname@example.org.
Honorary Member-for-Life shall be entitled to all rights and privileges of State Association membership accorded to all members. In order to retain REALTOR® status; however, Honorary-Members-For-Life must maintain their Local and National Association memberships.

Are Background Checks Illegal?
During “Fair Housing Month” in April, the Dept. of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) released a guidance that has landlords and property managers aflutter about whether they’re breaking the law if they reject a potential tenant based on a background check. The reason for the new interpretation of this section of the federal Fair Housing Act? Blame the Internet. Whether a person is ultimately convicted or not, the arrest information is easily obtainable on the Internet, and included in background checks used to choose tenants for housing and apartment rentals.
Illinois has the highest property taxes in the country, at 2.67%, while Hawaii has the lowest, at .31%. California is in the middle (I’ll bet you expected us to be higher!).

A group of CVAR members got the rare opportunity to attend Legislative Day in Sacramento, meet legislators at the Capitol–and to see just how much of an impact individual REALTORS® can have on policymakers!

Why Americans Really Buy Homes
A majority of home buyers, especially those purchasing their first home, are looking for a place to call their own, put down roots and make memories. They value the emotional benefits of owning a home as much as financial ones.
Most home sellers are seeing plenty of equity when selling their home. On average in March, sellers sold for $30,500 more than what they had paid for their home–a 17 percent gain, according to RealtyTrac’s First Quarter 2016 Home Sales Report. It’s the highest average price gain for sellers since December 2007.
