Home buyers and sellers planning a kitchen redo have a lot of questions they need answered: What style of cabinets are in? What’s the newest color for countertops? What appliances should I install when there are so many? How do I ensure that my kitchen will be a gathering hub?
The cost of redoing a kitchen is on the rise, averaging $109,000 for an upscale renovation and $55,000 for a mid-range transformation, according to the 2014 Cost vs. Value Report. You can serve as a much-needed resource for clients, advising them on the dos and don’ts when considering a kitchen remodel and helping them identify improvements within their budget.
As existing-home sales and home prices make remarkable strides upward nationwide, remodeling projects are also continuing to make a comeback in a big way.
This is the second year in a row that all 35 projects in Remodelingmagazine’s Cost vs. Value Report saw more home improvement dollars recouped upon resale of a home than the previous year.
Existing-home sales reached 5.02 million in 2013, a 9.1 percent increase from 2012, according to the National Association of REALTORS®. Home prices also rose in 2013: Existing homes commanded a median price of $197,100, up 11.5 percent from the 2012 median price of $176,800. This is the largest price gain since 2005.
Planning for 2015 might be the last thing you want to do in the throes of summer, but I’ve learned the hard way that the difference between success and failure is planning well in advance. As the saying goes, “A goal without a plan is just a wish.”
A good example is my first business cutting lawns. There were teenagers who cut my neighbor’s lawn for $10. I figured I could do it cheaper and convinced everyone in my neighborhood to let me cut their lawn for 5 bucks. I was 8 years old and 5 bucks a lawn was a lot, especially if my dad was going to let me use the household lawn mower and pay for the gas. I quickly convinced my friends to do the work for $2.50 a lawn, and we were like a swarm of bees every weekend morning during the summer.
One of the best feelings and positions in life is to be financially free. Financial freedom found from building sizable savings and being debt free can happen at any age with the proper planning.
One of the biggest questions you’ll face on your path to financial freedom is whether or not you should pay off your home mortgage. There is no black and white answer for everyone as the answer depends on a variety of variables, as with most financially related questions.
We’ve been talking about the need for more video in real estate for at least a decade. The fact that the topic is still popular is a testament to our poor adoption of video as an industry, but also to the clear value that video promises.
The recent emergence of quality smartphone video and the democratization of high-quality video technology seem to be creating the first serious shift in the prevalence of online video for real estate. We can finally see video moving toward becoming a standard complement for an online presence as opposed to a unique offering.
